Album Bio

Death. While we all know it’s a guarantee, most of us cringe at the thought.

Life. Everybody wants to enjoy it. We want to preserve it. At all costs.

And since you’re going to die, you might as well do what thou wilt while you’re still living. Right?

Well, what if what we call living is merely wandering to and fro under the illusion that we are in control; when, in fact, our thoughts, our urges, our selfish ambitions and our deepest longings have us enslaved?  That’s not living. It’s existing without purpose.  But how do we overcome this chasm? Is there a solution?

Pro offers his: Dying to Live.

Following the success of Redemption, Pro returns with his second album Dying to Live—a theatrical celebration of death as the only way to life. The funeral procession is led by “A Life Worth Dying For,” an atypical eulogy that exposes mankind’s failure to see past ourselves and our surroundings to discover life, which can only be found in Christ.  The intergalactic first single “Mission to Mars,” featuring and produced by PK, sets the bar for the level of production on this album offering an out of this world farewell to the mundane life. Dying to Live continues to thrill with the exhilarating, heavy metal laden “Full Court Mess” ft. KB; and hard-hitting bangers “No One Greater” ft. J’Son and Trip Lee; and “Never Back Down” ft. S.O. and Thi’sl.  The album also features the melodic sounds of Jenny Norlin on “This Can’t Be” and Niya on “So Far Gone.” Other highlights include Lecrae and Tedashii on the gritty anthem “Going In” and Suzy Rock on the soul-stirring ode “Drink From His Cup.” Production from Pro, Joseph Prielozny, Tony “Stone” Shepherd, Cheesebeats, Big Juice and others makes Dying to Live an invigorating project.

“Within all men there’s a desire—to push through the pain and not burn as we walk through the fire. Though we know there’s something much greater than us, our heart’s desire tells us the only thing important is us. From life’s first cry to our final resting position is a constant jockeying for significance and attention. And as we chase the grim reaper with his diamond-covered (i)cicle, or send our brothers to meet him with vanity’s pistol, it’s clear that we are craving life—yet misdirected, trapped in a snare of night. Who can save us from this dastardly device? Give us purpose as we claw and we fight! This can’t be it. I’m sure there’s more. Show us a life worth dying for.”

So, just a suggestion, and I'm sure there are more people than just me thinking this way at this time too, but it would be great if lyrics for this album could get posted pronto! If you rely on users to submit them, then I will do it. Let me know!

Who's with me? This album is SICK! Pro: doing work, bro.

@all people concerned about Walmart, Amazon, Bestbuy, etc. What is likely happening is that Reach is allowing the album to run its course on itunes first before allowing it to be distributed from other vendors. A good comparison would be the way movies are released: First to theaters, and then rental/dvd later.

Typically, other vendors will sell music albums at lower prices and short the label out of additional revenue in the process. Not to mention, itunes is still the most popular music distribution service. I personally use Amazon and so I too am dissapointed that the album is not available yet. However, it makes good business sense for the label to withhold its availability for now.

Basically it comes down to whether or not you can wait for the lower priced vendors to start distributing the album. Should you find yourself torn over this dilemma, I'd say you're in good company. =)

I bought this album with the automatic download, but when I download it and try to open it, it says there is nothing in the folder to open. Has anyone else had a problem like this? Could it be something wrong with merchline?

I think i really expected a little more from this album lyricly. Mort of PRo's time seemes to be spent talking about problems in the world or "gettin buck" Not that theres anything wrong with that, but i guess i was hoping for a little more reflection on the attributes of God and not just 2 verses about a problem and then one verse about how Jesus is the answer. I think that for that reason alone i would give Redemption a higher rating than Dying to Live. Songs like Blow My Mind and God, and Hold Me Down and Slave to You seemed to capture Christian living and reflecting on who God is better than most on this album. There were a few on this album, but not many. is that fair or am i being a little too hard on PRo? I dont have any problems with the individual songs, but when we truely die to ourselves, we are spending a great deal of time meditating and praising God. Am i alone on that? Or did someone else get the same impression? I would really like to hear a PRo version of Greatful by Lecrae, or something similar. I dont mean to divide by this comment, but let me know what ya think! This album is still fire in my book!

I agree 100% with Yung Elekt. In comparison to Redemption, Dying To Live is garbage. It's a shame, because Redemption pretty much made PRo my favorite artist. I'd have thought that being on Reach Records would have made this album better, but I was mistakenly wrong. Not sure what happened here, but it's like he lost the spark or something. Maybe he been talking to Sho Baraka too much!

Jae
– Aug 27 2011

I agree that Redemption was the better album in comparison, but it's a little over the top to say that Dying to live is straight 'garbage.' Furthermore, this is definitely Reach quality. Really, it'd be better not to compare the two albums, and, instead, simply learn to appreciate both for what they are. I'm not sure it was PRo's intent to produce 'better' music than what he did before; just more 'good' music. From this standpoint, I'd say he accomplished his purpose.

To address the concerns of the differences in lyrical quality, it should be recognized that this really has been the direction of CHH altogether, not just PRo, and not just Reach Records (i.e. Thi'sl's most recent album). Yes, the theological rap was nice, and there's a sense in which it will still be apart of CHH; but, on the other hand, there are other demographics to be reached (no pun intended). Having lyrical content that is not always 'systematic' helps artists broaden their appeal. No, they'll never lose the Christian label, but they have other opportunities available if they come down from the ivory tower once in a while and, conversely, speak about how Christianity impacts real life. To strike a balance, I'd say that CHH artists would do well to remember that, yes, it is your freedom in Christ to branch beyond the 'churchy,' but, at the same time, don't ignore the church altogether in your endeavor to branch out.

You are right on point Yung Elekt.

I totally did NOT mean that this album was at all garbage or even that PRo had bad theology or any of that, im just saying that a song or two could have been replaced by meditation and reflection. Lecrae did that on Rehab with songs like Background and Boasting. Background was probably his most popular song on that album so to say that the direction of CHH is moving away from that is not at all true! I did like all of PRo's songs individually, but with the excption of no one greater and drink from His cup, which were even seemed somewhat distracted by world problems... all i meant was that he could add a song or 2 of meditation or reflection. not even take away any of the songs where he talked about problems nessaciarraly, because i understand that there is a need for those! Again, i didnt mean to divide by this, but take it for what it's worth. There was nothing herritical in this album, and definently nothing worth starting a fight over between brothers and sisters. Just hopefully Reach can take it into consideration for next time. thats all i meant to say!

I agree with Yung Elekt's second comment. I wouldn't say that Dying to Live is garbage, but I really enjoy songs on God like Shai Linne's "The Glory of God". Have you heard? I really appreciate Reach, but I would like to encourage them to talk on Christ, because for the Christian, He is to be the center of his life!

Jonathan

...By the way, I actually like Dying to Live a lot. Just encourage ya to be centered mainly on Christ. Praise B 2 His name!

Jonathan

Love Shai Linne's lyrics!(i.e. greatest story ever told!) I love Reach lyrics as well! They have always done an amazing job reflecting on God AND adressing problems. they are very theologicly sound and i am very greatful in the way that God has used them, espicially how He has used them in my life! But yes, johnathan is right, i would encourage them to talk on Christ because He is the center of our life! Also, sorry about that duplicate message, the first one was sent out by accident!

i think the cd was banging.. sometimes its good to take a look at where we are living and to face our problems in order to go forward in life.and PRO didnt take away christ from his songs! they just saw a need to bring him up in a different way on this CD. I really like most of the songs and in my opinion this CD is better than Redemption, cos this CD's got the best songs ive ever heard from Pro, like Before I Die, FUll Court Mess and Beautiful.. Keep up the good work for Jesus mayyyne!

I don't think they meant that pro took God out of the songs. Just the worship aspect. I felt the same way. not that there is anything wrong with "taking a look at problems and facing them" cuz that is needed, but so is worship.

Ok First of all the album was alright it could be better. Second, was the point on the 2nd track mission to mars. What message are you trying to say? There are people in the world that dont believe in Jesus, such as Atheists, what does mission to mars has to do with Jesus?

Vlad
– Aug 29 2011

I have to go back on what I said before. The album isn't "garbage" and I was out of line to go that far. I was thinking in "Redemption" mode and I still believe that this album fails in comparison. However, once I got out of "Redemption" mode, after listening to this album about 5 times, it's grown on me.

Could have done without the bonus track though. Get buck? "That's so two-thousand-six". Well, 2005 actually, but I wanted some pun.

I thank god someone stepped up to speak about whats going on in our generation we need gospel music like this all day Pro's album goes hard for christ from the moment you put it in, you can save all your commentary and why dont you just start praising god cause i believe thats what pro is doing in dying to live people why dont you pray instead of puttin your mess up here, now i ask god to bless and protect reachrecords and staff for all their love for a dying world that god would grant all there needs and favor them according to his will in jesus name and bless there families n wifes double portion in the name of the father son n holy spirit, peace n grace from unknown

I am actually shocked at some of the comments I have seen pertaining to this album. Pro and the rest of reach have been doing great jobs with their music as well as sho baraka! I dont think that some of you guys are being fair with your opinions about this album because I think that this album is great! Pro is being used by God and this album has really been speaking to me in many ways. Just because his approach was a little different with this album does not mean that it fails in comparison with redemption. In conclusion I just want to say good job pro and keep up the good work! God bless!

In response to the most recent posts, I never meant to "put up my mess" on this site, and i love reach and pro just as musch as the rest of you! I've been following Lecrae and reach ever since Jesus Musik. i thought that i came across in a way that was as gracious as possible and made it clear that "it's nothing worth starting a fight between brothers and sisters about. i quote myself saying "I love Reach lyrics as well! They have always done an amazing job reflecting on God AND adressing problems. they are very theologicly sound and i am very greatful in the way that God has used them, espicially how He has used them in my life! But yes, johnathan is right, i would encourage them to talk on Christ because He is the center of our life!" As a matter of fact, just today i recomended PRo to an unbelieving co-worker, and gave him the link to PSA Vol. 2. I'm not trying to ba a hater and i realize that PRo is someone who is sincerly trying to honor God, as he has even with this album. However, i am not willing to say that i was wrong about the fact that he should have had even one song for the sole purpose of praising God. As a matter of fact, i would venture to say that glorification of God is probably one of the best ways of witnessing to people who are ensnared in sin. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works and GLORIFY your Father who is in heaven. But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."
Now i dont think that any of us can argue that PRo neglected worshiping God with truth on his album, but it would have been nice to hear his spirit worship in such a way that ours could worship along with his. because both carry equal weight. (i'm sure that PRo was worshiping God in his own spirit when he was making this cd)but at least one song of worship would have been nice, PRo is not in sin because of this, but mabye something for Reach to keep in mind for next time, or mabye PRo could come out with a worship single or something? anyway, hope that helps people understand where i'm comming from. God Bless!

well said my brother, may the lord bless us all on this day that he has made and continue to use us for his glory, hey lets touch and agree that god would touch all chh artist and release a worship song or 2 for the glory of the father, the name of Jesus be lifted high. p.s i understand i go to a church full of David's (faithworld.com) peace n grace n mercy

phew!I honestly can't stop listening to this album! even songs like the bonus song! it definitely brings me to a time of reflecting on God even through the crisp awesome production of the beats that burst with passion! just makes you wanna scream and jump for the lord! you can tell they wanna rep hard! and show truth about this world and christ! without a doubt! and the mission to mars song is about how we are not of this world and we are on a mission to people in a foreign land with people who are different than us! and this album accomplishes that in it's self with taking down the theological terms that many unbelievers would just look over and be like this dude don't make since! I'm diggin it! no body gets saved discussing eschatology, dispensationalism or the millennium
