Why I'm Unashamed Pt. 2

Type: blog By triplee Posted December 8th, 2009 26 Comments

In Part 1 we established that we should be unashamed of the Gospel first and foremost because it is the power of God. God uses the Gospel to call dead men from the grave. And not only does He call them with this message, He raises them with this message.

So yeah this all sounds nice and good, but when the time comes to share the truth with others it never goes down quite so easy.

The Problem

Have you ever been in conversation with someone and wanted to share the Gospel with them, but couldn't get yourself to do it? It seems that when we are in the Scriptures or with our church we rejoice and feel motivated to share the Good News with others. But then when we find ourselves face to face with someone who may be resistant or hostile to the Gospel, it all feels a bit different. Conflicting thoughts race through our minds about how we aren't eloquent enough, or how we don't know enough, or how there is no way we can convince them. And of course when we think about it later we are disappointed in ourselves. How do we get passed this?

Lack of Confidence
Shame and fear often cripple us. Usually this kind of fear arises when there is a lack of confidence in the resources we possess. This is like a small nation hesitating to go to war with a great nation because they feel their weapons are not as advanced.

The fear is understandable. The Bible is clear that the hearts of men are in bad shape. Hearts are hardened and want nothing to do with Jesus. There are even some that like "Jesus" as they understand him, but want nothing to do with the real Jesus as presented in the Scriptures. There are fortresses built around hearts and strongholds that seek to keep good things out. It is intimidating to think about getting past these fortresses to soften the hearts. What weapons do we have?

Reason for Confidence
One of the passages that often reminds me of the power of the Gospel talks about the weapons we have and the power they pack.

In 2 Corinthians, Paul is once again defending himself and his ministry:
"For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every through captive to obey Christ..."
2 Corinthians 10:3-5

If we know anything about Paul, it's that the only thing he cares about and lives for is the Gospel. He said he was determined to know nothing but Christ and Him crucified (1 Corinthians 2:2). There is no doubt that he seeks to exalt the power of the word of God in this passage. So how should we, as believers, respond to passages like this?

Conclusion
We must respond with unashamed, bold confidence. The next time you stand before someone and feel like the odds are stacked against you remember this verse. People do have strongholds up that seek to hinder the work of God, but God has given us a weapon that has power to DESTROY strongholds. Maybe we feel like we can't reach people that we can't relate to or who are intellectually superior to us. That is contrary to the truth in this verse. The most well crafted presentation has absolutely no power to destroy lofty opinions or strongholds. But the simple message of the Gospel has all the power we need.

Brothers and sisters, we are at war and we must fight. There is no mission in the world that is more important than this one. And we can not afford to forfeit because of fear. We must remember that no battle is impossible to win because the weapons we fight with are unmatched. God will break through obstacles and save those whom He seeks to save. His Word NEVER fails. Our role is to plead with men to repent and to plead with God to save them.

"So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it."
Isaiah 55:11

A few friends and I were having a bible study on Romans and we were wondering what your thoughts were on predestination.

  • Akera (Dec 8th at 2:31 PM) This really helped me. It is so hard sometimes to share the gospel with those who want nothing to do with it. I admit, I've backed out a few times when I know the Holy Spirit was leading me, and, as you said, I've felt ashamed about it later. I will not let fear do that to me again, though. I believe the Word and 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 is enough to change me! My pastor has been stressing this very thing lately. We need to win souls.
  • La (Dec 8th at 6:14 PM) I was chewing on part one.. but i'm swallowing pt 2! :) amen!
  • Dayo Oyelakin (Dec 8th at 9:11 PM) @Trip Lee and Everyone Else. Let us not forget the power of prayer. I pray that God's Will is done in me and that He gives me the opportunity to change other people lives in ways that I never could have imaged. That He gives me the right words to say when it comes time to minster to another about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Remember: "Let the Words of my Mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight O Lord my strength and Redeemer." (Psalm 19:14)

So pray for God to Assist you in His Will as well as praying for those He has given you.
  • Michael Azonye (Dec 8th at 10:54 PM) Ah and 116 music is our war cry. Please keep making beautiful music we can dance too, be inspired by, and have the courage to be unashamed because of. • Jason McKay (Dec 9th at 12:55 AM) Many times people are ashamed because they don't believe in their product. If you have the new j's, fresh in the box that people are standing in line at Foot Locker to get, will you have to use a lot of energy to sell those shoes? Nope! Why? Because we know that everyone there wants those shoes. This is the same mentality we have to carry with the gospel. Contrary to popular believe, people want the gospel! They just don't want religion! So, if you know that people want the gospel and you believe in your product, which is the gospel, you will have nooooo problem giving it.

Dude was like what's wrong with serving satan, he ain't really bad. Talking alot of crazy things. The BLOOD of Jesus was covering me and I was praying too. I belive when it was all said and done this kid name Austin had doubts about his god. I had alot of time also where I was like, I'm not going over there, but God has helped me alot. I hope this edify the Body. Much love

  • Marques (Dec 12th at 12:03 AM) Dude I had the same problem and fear but God profoundly transformed my view of reaching the lost when I started reading the Evidence Bible compiled by Ray Comfort. The Charles Spurgeon quote in the Evidence Bible about tracts comforted my heart tremendously and all the quotes from John Wesley, Martin Luther, John MacArthur, and countless people from the past and present made me prepared to bring the gospel of peace (Eph. 6:10-20).
  • jWeazy (Dec 15th at 4:44 PM) Hey thanks a lot Trip. This is huge man. I appreciate all your insight and motivation as we seek to proclaim our faith to people. If you get a chance, could you send me some thoughts on righteous anger? Thanks and much love
  • Missy (Dec 15th at 6:12 PM) It's funny because we were all talking about this at Impact last night....realized this is no time for games...let the training begin.

  • Charlie D (Jan 3rd at 1:10 PM) Me and a couple guys are going out tonight to share the Gospel. I will be praying that this will keep me in check and increase the boldness that I am able to receive from God. Thank you Trip.
  • Joshua Gale (Jan 5th at 10:54 PM) Hey trip,

How should we present the Gospel if its not brung up? Lets say you are working at a big company(A company like Kay Jewelers or Jared)
and your boss talks to you everyday about his problems, but you know that he dont want to hear the word. Should I still speak of Christ? Should I not say anything to keep my job or what? They know that I am a christian but I am just not sure what to say to them . Thanks..
  • Joshua The Boss (Jan 14th at 7:37 AM) Sir what makes people blush when they talk about Christ is b/c they do so 4rm a responsibility-point-of-veiw wt so much eloquence dt they dont seek strength 4rm d HOLY SPIRIT. Our sincerity and willingnes 2 preach d Word is nt enough, we need the Holy Spirit. ASK THE APOSTLES. 418
  • Monique (Jan 16th at 11:11 AM) All this was very helpful both trip and everyone who left a comment. Earlier this week I asked God to show me what u want me to do and that I won't be ashamed to speak. The next day a conversion came up about wordly music which led us into a conversation about religion. One of the guys were Muslim and believed Jesus wad only a prophet but not the savior. I was on the back but when I heard that I moved closer. I knew the perfect scripture but I didn't say anything and I was so mad at myself. I asked the Lord to forgive me cuz that day maybe woldve changed his life. All in all I was still proud to see teenagers my age know the bible cuz when I didn't speak they did. Next time I won't have fear. God bless ! By the way luv ur music trip
  • Damien Reed (Jan 16th at 3:13 PM) Greater is he that is in you than in this world. Have faith and pray for stronger faith and a stronger witness.Depend on The Spirit and not yourself just go do it.Do not be afraid I am with you, dont be dismayed for I am your God.....
  • Keva (Jan 19th at 11:00 AM) I am not ashamed of the gospel but my family is so lost and i don't know how to reach them. My brother is a muslim, my grandmother is a muslim slash christian lol, my aunt is a christian that has backslid so far i don't believe she wants to come back to Christ. My sister is just lost and when i I talk about God she just stares at me waiting so shut up lol. My mother is like "i know about the Koron, and I know about the Bible." but when i asked her what religion she is, that's all she says. So i don't know about her. My dad goes to church but he's a quiet person so i don't really know what he believes but i feel he is okay, lol. Now that's just people in my house, i don't even want to begin on the rest of my family lol. But my nefew (hes 5) is a believer and I try to read to him daily, but my brother keeps saying i'm "BRAINWASHING " him and he keeps telling him "ALAH" ( i dont know how to spell that lol) is the way...i need advice. What do you suggest?
  • Coco (Feb 1st at 12:59 AM) A friend and I have been talking and praying about this for a little while now. It KILLS us when we realise we give the Gospel so apologetically, chewing on our lips and whatnot! Aaaahhhh drives me nuts! Its like "noooooo I am not ashamed, I refuse to be ashamed, Christ died for me! So how come when I want to witness to friends from other religions its like um..um..um...here's Jesus Christ, I don't mean to offend you, I'm sorry don't mean to almost burden you, matter of fact I know you're going to reject this anyhow, but um..um..um..um..don't reject ME. **GAAAAAAAHHHHH!!** How twisted is that! In our hearts its like "NOOOO MAAN I KNOW BETTER THIS, SNAPPPP, these people are DYING!!!!"
Offering the Gospel watered-down is the WORST feeling ever, especially when in your heart, you really do love Christ!
I want to count it no cost and no loss for people to reject ME because they reject the Gospel. I want to stand and be stoned for WHO I love and believe in!
Maan, you all are in my prayers, May Christ teach us all to stand and be bold in who we are in The Father as He was! That we'll have that Paul conviction and courage!, we'll breathe to rep Christ so hard and so loud and so 1000% anguished for souls, that people query our sanity! Yessss I want to live a life POURED OUT!!!!
  • Malcolm (Feb 3rd at 11:38 PM) This is great. My church(EveryNation Tallahassee) was talking about the same thing, about believer's fear of man. We gotta be bold like Jesus was on earth.
