Are you Rebelling? by Lecrae
Sup yall! The album dropped and I must say that I’m blown away at the response. I find it very encouraging that we didn’t take the route of trying to minimize and cover up the message of the Gospel, but instead made it very blunt and plain and still God did more than we could have imagined in the first week.
*NOTE* We have one key strategy at Reach. Exalt Jesus, Preach the Word, Christ Alone, never try to empty the cross of it’s power, and live out daily what you proclaim to others. I guess it’s really no different than Paul’s strategy. So I can tell everyone it wasn’t us trying to make non-offensive music for people. The Gospel is offensive… but it works. ROM 1:16
Anyway….I’d like to hear what you are getting from the album. Not “I like the beats” or “I love that song” but how are you encouraged, challenged, edified, or convicted.
Let me know!

When i got Rebel in the mail (no worries bout the delay) i was having a really tough time at school, worryin about college, friends, stuff. "desperate" spoke to me cause i heard my struggles in the lyrics. it reminded to me to just take it all to God. i've been gettin back on track since. "don't waste your life" (can't wait to hear more from dwayne tryumf!) made me want to stop the track and go witness. it helped me realize the Spirit is convicting me to take advantage of the opportunities provided to me when it comes to witnessing. i look back on how many opportunities i've had in the past few days to share my faith, and most of the time ive either done so without passion or not at all. all credit to the artists that represent christ by pouring their faith into their music, but this music is only a pathway to the one, true answer. we need to have a personal relationship with Jesus, our Savior. Trip Lee, Tedashii, Sho Baraka, Lecrae, and all the other Christian artists out there- thank you for what you're doin. you provide a source of light in a world of darkness where we can plant our roots. God bless, keep holdin it down

I'm encouraged. I'm not in an "urban context" nor do I fit into rap culture, but I am encouraged by the album and your pursuit of the Lord, as well as the unashamed representation of the gospel that Reach tries to exemplify. I love how honest and evangilistic you all are. And I love the racial reconciliation that all this will bring about. Good interview with Driscoll, good theme for the album, great music that makes much of Christ. A blessing to all who hear it. From one brother in Christ to another, thank you for living it.

WOW! This albulm has really fed me alot. Ill start from Dont Waste Your Life. Alot of the time ill find myself watching movies, doing nothing, layin on the couch meanwhile i can be in the word or do something edifying. This song really pops into my head when i catch myself doing absolutley nothing. Go Hard just really encourages me and just shows us how why are we worried about the little things when people are dying sharing there faith out there. It just encourages you to get out there and just preach the gospel at all costs. Songs like indwelling sin and desperate just shows me more how guys like you who know the word and Love God fall into temptation and into sin. That line when you were like "it feels like everyone knows i did it" in desperate WOW!!! like that is so true and so real! Lecrae you are beast lol and your messages are really great! To ebe honest i always listened to music just for the hot beats and just cool music but albulms like this just has great messages. This and Trips 20/20 has really fed me seeing God in a clearer view and just seeing what our everyday walk should be. Well yeah i could say alot more but i gotta get to homework and when i saw this article i just hadda leave one.

i dont even know where to begin. i have listened to Rebel about ... a lot since it dropped. at least once a day. but the way your songs minister to me is crazy. i have everything from 116 and CM. God has and continues to use all of you(more you, Amba' and Da' Truth) i mean rebel intro is so encouraging. imean to the way you explain rebellion and how rebellion isnt even what it use to be. i bump this in my car wit my system loud everyday, even in my work truck. and identity. wow. this is something ive started to learn a few months back and the song is just encouraging. love the hook. indwellin sin is all to real for me. especially wit my past with women and drugs. its crazy how good our flesh can make things seem so innocent and fun like thers no consequences or death in the end. then theres desperate. hit me hard. convicted me real bad. it was like line for line of what ive been dealing wit just the week b4 the album dropped. the song has blessed me. and finally live free. which is my song to keep me encouraged. a reminder of how really free i truly am. free from my past, my fears of living for God and free to be who God wants me to be. im finally starting to understand that to be truly free i must fully, with all thats in me i must surrender and continue to do it. thank you for allowing God to use you to speak into all the lives that you do. not only to get His message out but to teach, motivate, and show us by example to live for Christ. may He continue to use you and the rest of the 116 and CM for His honor and Glory. and just as you have blessed me may God in His faithfulness bless you and your family. one ? i have a track called tranformers but its not on your album. also a blessing.

Your junior release is everything I anticipated and more. Your choice of producers stops the stigma that gospel artist have wack beats. I knew this 21 RR and CM albums ago but it feels good to know that just like God...there's more we haven't tapped into. Keep doing your thing brotha' and I'll keep sowing, putting God's money back into His mission; and that's seeking and saving the lost, preaching the Good News about Jesus Christ and living the abundant life; exlemplifying the fullness of Christ and the fruits of the spirit of God. I'm going to stop right here because if I keep going...Praise God!

There is so much energy in this CD! And for some reason, this CD has caught my attention in a whole other way for the other ones. I've really come to pay attention to the lyrics more, and it used to be that I would play the music just for the sake that it's "Jesus music" and that, as a Christian, I should be playing this music. But no! It goes further than that! Just like reading our Bibles empowers us as it says "the word is living and active," God speaks to us in other ways, another way being this album! I've never felt so empowered by the Holy Spirit listening to music in a LONG time until this album came out. I sat at home one afternoon a couple days ago, and I couldn't stop envisioning myself walking on a planet filled with sin and stepping up and wanting to live my life out boldly proclaiming the name of Jesus. I'm sure you guys, part of the 116 clique, know what God is doing through your ministry, but not to what extent. I can testify here in Alabama, that I am spreading the name of 116, and what that verse in Romans is all about. We need more of this music too! PLEASE bring more! I have been hosting dance parties here at Auburn, and I am, in a sense, using it as a behind-the-scenes ministry to reach out to people. While others indulge in revelry and debauchery and intoxicating themselves, I am showing people that we can glorify God in anything we do...even at a dance party. I am playing yall's beats, and we need more...because there is so much good sounding secular music, but the lyrics are filthy. We need more music like this!

The amazing thing about the album is the completeness of it. the tracks set a tone that you look at your own life and by the end your feel convicted to go and preach the. The song Beautiful Feet is very well placed at the end. i relate alot the story about the guy whose forced to change is whole culture . I love the line "gotta get em a bachelors and suite a tie. by then all his boys in the hood woulve been died". it difficult to carry the gospel and yet sometime traditions wants to make you look like a "minister". But its like 20/20 them is complete from beginning to end looking forward to T-dot's joint.

I been listenin to it all the time; it's the only thing playin on my ipod right now. "Truth" hit me straight up in the face the first time I listened to it, the logic is incredible. Its givin me a whole new response to the secular thinkin of this world. The rest of the cd is really encouragin me, especially Beautiful Feet. Thanks you Lecrae for the best album ever, and thank you for all the great words you've given us!!!

I found the Beautiful Feet really convicting, it spoke to me so much. I've been thinking lately about getting involved in the inner city up in Chicago, I go to Church out there every now and then but haven't gone deep out there yet. The song has encouraged me to pursue inner city ministry when I get out of college, and to get involved in the city as much as possible now, as you put it the Hood's hurtin and it's speaks poorly of our faith when Christians aren't the first on the scene. Keep speaking truth man.

I praise God for this song. God has constantly been dealing with me about Him desiring truth in my inwards parts. And His desire (by the grace of God) has become my desire. Yet I was confused about this conflicting desire dwelling within. God has used awesome servants like Paul Washer, John Piper, James McDonald, John Owens, R C Sproul, John MacArthur, and Jerry Bridges to help me through the enabling of the Holy Spirit to open my eyes to His marvolus Truth and not only that but to live it out. I praise God for yall bruh, because one of the things that I'm starting to understand (again by the grace of God) is that when we see God for who He really is as reveal in Scripture, it causes us to fall in love with Him and propels us into worship. Again I just praise God for how He uses yall to make records that simply just BRAG on Him and His goodness, mercy, righteousness, holiness, love, wrath, justice, grace, greatness, etc (He's inexhuastable homie!) Man, brother Crae, I'm just gonna stop right here , I don't think it is really possible to express my gratitude for God uses yall to encourage us to make much of Him and take joy in doing so. Love yall bruh.

Go Hard is an AMAZING SONG! It really inspires me to rep Christ all the way or nothing. It showed me that MY LIFE is a tool for God's glory and to use it as much as I can even to the death. A part of being a tool for God is going where He says and doing what He wants.
GO HARD FOR GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man all I can say is God knows what he is doing. I was going through a lil' slump in my wallk. But we had a conferance and God restored my relationship. Then I went an Coap the Cd. Yeah the beat are tight. But Indwelling Sin and track like Change refueled my tank. Now the song I write and rap at our church in Las Vegas are more intune with God. Thanks for the push fam. I know one day we two will do a song together to Glorify the Father. i love what ya'll are doing and keep it up Family Because God is using ya'll to fueling this planet. And plus U number 1 on the Gospel Billboards, number 2 on overall Christian Albums and number 60 on their top 200. And that top 200 is all genres of music. Be blessed Reach

The Rebel cd is by far a growth album. Real talk was real, After the music stops was solid, Rebel is convicting, challenging, and helpin me grow in a manner that is benefiting my life, wife, and family. Indwelling sin is the song that hits me deep at home. I remember those nights of throwin up, smokin up as well as pornograpy addictions. Its good to know crae can reflect wit it on a different level than everybody I've heard so far. The 116 is a true blessing to all of us who have a passion for rap, I call it redeemed rap an visa versa. Keep it up Crae I look up to the 116 like big brothers, LOVE YALL God Bless!!!

This album really challenges you no matter who you are. Being a student at a high school where God is hard to find, this album encourages me to stay strong with God and rebel against the current culture. I feel better when I listen to these uplifting tracks like the intro, "Don't Waste your Life" "Desperate" "Indwelling Sin" "I'm a Saint"! Perfect album, with the perfect message, at a perfect time with the way the current culture is in America. Keep up the great work Lecrae! I am a REBEL!
God Bless!

Hey Lecrae I'd answer your question by saying more than anything else, the Rebel album was convicting for me. Don't Waste Your Life, Go Hard, Desperate, and especially Beautiful Feet are packed full of the truth that we need to be REAL Christians, in accordance with God's truth. We have to, we must, (and we should want to) use our lives to not only grow in our relationship with God but also to help others get saved through a revelation of God's truth and love and grace - which is all tied to the resurrection of Jesus. John 20:17 - the first words of the resurrected Lord to Mary once she was granted the ability to recognize him were "do not hold on to me", but to go spread the Word! This is the will of God for us as his followers and children in this world full of sin and despair, because it's full of lost people who need to be found. So let's GO HARD FOR JESUS out of our love for Him, and bring as many people with us as possible to Heaven when we die to be part of the family!

Once again I am blessed by the lyrics. In a culture of christian music, it's so hard to find good lyrics, let alone something that is clearly bringing the gosple. But this record does, thanks brother. It's also challenged me to challenge others in being a rebel, and so far I've had some pretty good response becase the glory of Christ is being preached. I've also been able to give a couple copies of Rebel to some guys on my college football team, and they've really enjoyed it. Blessings and continue to preach Christ and Him Crucified!

Hey Lecrae! I just wanted to say that your new alblum has an amazing message! I was encouraged and challenged by all of the songs because the Gospel was so clear in all of the songs. I especially like the song "Rebel Intro" because it challenges everyone to rebel against the culture today. Keep up the good work!

I had been waiting or the cd to drop for like months and all I can say is the album was defintely worth the wait. It inspired me and encourages me to rebel and live against the culture especially when Christ is so rarely talked about and often shunned. Thank you Lecrae for allowing yourself to be used by God. It really is a blessing for all of us.

Lecrae... I am very blessed by the album. The musical quality is beyond belief. But, the lyrics are even more qualified. Essential lyrics for a culture that is dying in sin. I am also very glad that you touched on the subject of this horrible "prosperity gospel" that is growing in churches these days... "She (The Church) is a World Changer, but ain't about getting rich!" I understand completely!
We MUST continue to preach The Biblical TRUE GOSPEL of Jesus Christ! In these last days even the church is being corrupted... We need you LECRAE! We Need You Reach Records! NEVER STOP MAKING MUSIC! NEVER STOP PREACHING JESUS!
"Lord kill me if I don't preach the gospel, still in my 20's but I'll die if I got to!"

God has really used all of you guys in my life. I am a new christian, and a friend of mine let me borrow about 8 cd's ( trip lee, da truth, tedashi, lecrae, sho baraka, flame... basically the whole 11six clique) I was so inspired by the message of everyone, they were all the same with different styles. Never be ashamed, rep hard for jesus, Jesus is the king. I was so inspired to never be ashamed of christ, and to do all i can for him. I thank God for using yall in the way that he did, and still is. I went out bought Rebel on my own, and i love it. Not only the beat, and the lyrics, but the message especially. I even got some of my friends hooked on it. Yall boy keep letting God use yall. Continue to be willing vessels and God will do the rest. Good Job.
I know ya'll might be busy but when I let some of my other brothers in christ hear the album, they had an idea of getting ya'll to come to our college next school year. Usually it is a christian rock group, but we would like to change it up a little, plus i think you guys would be great here. if you guys could get in touch with me by email that would be great!
anyway keep up Gods work and God bless!

I am not your typical Rap listener. I have to admit that I haven't enjoyed Rap since the early '80's . But, I found you all last spring while looking for a way to reach a student I was teaching...and I got hooked. I am a mature Christian and I appreciate the deep and sound biblical and theological messages in your (116) music. Many of your songs offer meditative opportunities that are reminiscient of Gregorian Chants. I find your music especially encouraging to my current calling as an elder at a church that is considering leaving our denomination. It is a difficult time, but we feel called to Rebel against a denomination that works for the world and not for God. It is a decision that could cost us our church building and our money, but not leaving could cost us our lives. The enemy senses the importance of our calling and attacks frequently, but your music has given me a "fall back" position, somewhere to come and just be with God. Your music is just as relevent to the older, learned and mature Christian as it is to the recently saved and unsaved, regardless of preferred music genre! That is a testimony to the important work you are doing for the Kingdom. Thanks and keep up the fight. Blessings to you and yours.

Lecrae man i am blown away everytime i listen to your stuff....The heart and the passion behind it is overwhelminging...Was born and brought up in Kuwait, so i didn't have much access to Christian rap at stores but i had access to Christian TV and JCTV once played Jesus Muzik and i was really touched by the boldness and passion that you and trip had thrown in the musik going against the mainstream secular culture...It challenged me to step up in my walk and i am learning to step outa my comfort zone...Ever since that i have been trying to get your music and infact preordered 'Rebel' cause i wanted to get your CD and i knew it was worth it...I haven't bought a CD in years because i downloaded most of my stuf off itunes....Man this CD speaks directly to us young people of walking in what Christ has for us...The songs i really liked were Don't Want To Waste, Identity(had so much meaning, something i am learning in my Christian Walk to identify myself in Christ and not anything this world has to offer), Desperate....Keep up the good work and may the Lord continue to give u His grace that you would serve Him acceptably with Godly fear and reverence. Heb 12:28...Much luv

Secular rap music was my idol for years before I began living for God and decided to give up my old ways. But He showed me that I could still listen to rap, only a different kind, a better kind. Got introduced to Reach, Flame, the Ambassador, etc. and I am eternally grateful. I must say that Rebel is the best album I have ever heard. Hands down.
The first time I listened to it, tears streamed down my face like a waterfall. I am so moved by what you and the Clique are doing, Lecrae; really, I am. What I love about Rebel is the bluntness of it and the use of daily situations and struggles. I think a lot of Christians look at the bigger picture (you know, love one another, pray for those who hurt you) and consequently overlook the details of every day life (i.e. how television can pervert us, identity).
What convicted me the most was the song Identity. As a young, 19-yr-old woman, I used toand sometimes still do, Ill admitfeel obligated to keep up my image. I know one thing my mom and I do way too often is shop. Last week we went on our usual mall trip, bought everything we didnt need, and for the first time I felt absolutely guilty for choosing to spend money on my looks rather than the church or an important ministry or even my own family who is living in poverty in the Philippines; not doing that anymore. Rebel has also encouraged me to want to pass this CD out to my friends who are struggling with their own walks of faith. And the last thing I want to add is that Indwelling Sin is brilliant. I think that is my favorite just because of its realness, because of the fact that you didnt hold back at all.
And now that Ive written my novel (hahaha) just want to extend a heartfelt thank you from my man and I for answering Gods call. You and your family be blessed, brother. We love what the Lord is doing through you.

Crae, this album has been truely a blessing to my spiritual walk and my life, fam. I've been saved for 3 years and basically haven't started eating meat yet, been stuck on milk, and even so recently, about a week before I bought your album, I was convicted by the LORD after reading John 5:44 which says "How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God". I've had trouble focusing on pleasing others around me rather than pleasing God. And with songs like Identity, Go Hard, Change, and Desperate, I've really been moved to press forward and to retain my focus! The LORD timed the drop of your album perfectly for my life, and for that, I praise God! I thank Him for and pray for you all the time! Stay humble, stay focused, your contributions to hip hop for the cause of the Kingdom of God has impacted the lives of thousands of Christians, and non believers all over!

Lecrae, Thank you!! Thank you for telling things how it is. See I know that its a difficult task, but the Lord is using it in a mighty way. I just feel like you should know the blessing it is giving me a youth leader. See the great part is to hear my youth say things like, " I had no idea that Christian music could be so Hard." " Chaney, do you realize I can not only cruise to this music, but rap it as well in school." See they can not get over how great the song is as well as the message. So after hearing each song daily, I have come to the positive conclusion that I am able to use the music to worship my God. Now not only that, I have youth out there using this CD to worship and preach the message to others. Man this CD gave my youth the idea that they want to be a rebel.
Now as for the tracks I will say my track as to be Go Hard. My reason is we have to many Christians out there who are not standing up for Christ. Be it at work, home, or in the streets, we need to stand up. See this song hit so hard with me because after starting a new job, I am the only one that is a Chrisitan. So after a week a listen to that track I said no more. Now my co workers are asking me about my faith and why I believe that way. So again thank you for the push man. Man God has used you in such a great positive way. Now this is the first Lecrae record I have and will be trying find the other. God Bless!!

This album from the lyrics, the beats, the delivery, and the quality is just PASSION...
The conviction in the album is fierce, but much needed. I'm a huge fan of music , in general, and have been listening to pretty much strickly Christian artists for many years now, except when it came to rap(one of my downfalls)... For some reason secular rap just always sounded better to me even though I'm against all that it stands for... But then a good friend of mine introduced me to the albums of the 116 clique and now after this album, I don't think I'll ever turn back. The tracks Truth, Indwelling Sin, and Breathin' to Death give me chills just thinking of how powerful they are. This album has definately given me what I was looking for in Christian rap, and has also helped me get a friend and "once believer" to start feeling the call back to Christ... You guys are truly a blessing and exactly what this world needs... Christians who are UNASHAMED.

Wow, I really just want to exalt Christ for the wisdom, understanding, and conviction He lavished upon you throught out this album! Many of the songs convicted me of my sinful love for the things of this world. ( DOnt waste you Life, & GO Hard) I was highly encouraged as well with that one song Indentity. The LORD in his grace has called my hub and I to urban ministy and that song has been the basis for a teen girl bible study I facilitate. In the hood so many look to Bet, certain rappers, certain clothing, wealth, ect.. to find their worth and significance..Man, but what FREEDOM and joy it is to be told that you have DIGNITY and WORTH not because of what you have and do but because of WHAT YOU WERE CREATED TO BE.. I can look at the drug addicts that walk pass my house everyday and say as well as think " they were created in GOd's image, and HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN HIS KINGDOM upon believing" I can say that with compassion and love to the orphan as well as the gang bangers.. Sense this album has droped we have passed out a couple of copies to the kids in our hood. I know the LORD is going to do some amazing things with it!! I anxiously await to see what HE will do in the lives of those we often forget about! TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!

It is so evident that the Lord is using you for his glory in a way that is so exalting Lecrae. You must feel sooo blessed to be a part of God's work! Being able to use the music to reach all of us, is amazing. In music today, the beat and the hook is the key. But, when you spit, its all the word I listen for. I love reading then remembering a line you said saying the same thing! Your music gives me an outline to the Bible at times. I love it! Thank you for convicting me with identity! I know God gives me my worth no matter what the world says. Glory to God

I heard your song Rebel Intro on ITunes the other day and got it quick. The impact it has had on me has been profound. My Wife and I are Youth Leaders at our Church. I actually got my first opportunity to preach at our Church this past Sunday night for the adults and the message I felt needed to be conveyed was about being a rebel but not in the traditional way. I used this song and some words that you had to say about the album in the message. Shoulda played the song but did not, sorry... God has really used this song and will use the album to challenge people to come to a realization that we gotta do what the Bible says to do. Love unconditionally Jesus and Our Fellow Man and Live Out Loud for Jesus. I wanna be a "REBEL" and will bring as many people along for the ride as I can. Keep it Rollin for HIM!!! God Bless...

All of the songs are great but the song that really challenged me was "Go Hard". A lot of the body of Christ do not preach the gospel on a regular basis, so i pray that it encourages and challenges them the same way it did me.

I recently had a discussion with a brother of mine and we were debating on whether music is a viable tool for spreading Christ thats is if people would listen to gospel rap, and i must say i'm impressed with the amount of truth in ur songs. Each one teaches and can be used to influence a person whether or not they have come into a relationship with Christ. Not just music, but a lifestyle. Much love keep it up.

The track indwelling sin, is so powerful, not only is the beat and rhyming bananas, but it is something that goes on sometimes on a daily basis, or for others pops up occassionally but as believers have to confront and stand firm when it does. Keep spreading the word.

As a lyricist, I am straight to the point. I have to listen to the lyrics before I allow my self to be swept up by the beat. simply because its how I guard my heart. The lyrics spoken on each track is on point and fall in line with the word of God. I like the way Lecrae uses a combination of the Word and his testimony to put the message forward in some instances. In addition, the song Rebellion was the best track to put forward, simply because (in my opinion) it is what we are as Christians not conformed to this world.
I cant pinpoint my favourite track, because they are all as encouraging to me and my husband. Your album serves as an additional source of conviction (if that is how its said).
I continue to hold you all up.
By the way, thank you Lecrae, Trip Lee and Tedashi for the shout out on our (Hutchings) wedding day. Charisse got us, you should have seen our reactions.
I hope you get this message, cos we have been trying to thank you since then.
Oh, I am also looking forward to Dwaynes album too.
Be encouraged bro.

The song Identity is really encouraging to me. I find myself feelig like who i am is how I dress. Even with Christian clothes and non Christian clothes I find myself paying attention to "Does this look stupid," and stuff like that, basicly making an idol outa clothes and hats. When I listen to 'Identity' I remember that clothes are a small factor of my life and they shouldn't be the main or even just a big part of my life

I like 'Indwelling Sin' because I know how my brothers are tempted and how it compares to my temptation. I can look at how you deal with it. It's cool to hear another true Christian bro and be able to pray for you and have you be an encouragement to me frm far awy w/o us ever meeting.

Check out this customer review Crayola...
Check out these reviews from iTunes:
"I love rap and I'm an atheist. I noticed that Lecrae's music was in the top 10 on iTunes and after sampling all of the tracks, I've purchased the album. Even though I don't believe in God, I enjoy listening to someone who believes so strongly about something and is able to convey it with such passion through his music. Great job. Looking forward to more album."
ADVICE FROM RAPZILLA.COM:
Our advice to Reach Records is to send out a press release to all media outles (Christian and Secular) and be sure they all have a copy of Rebel for review, get all the coverage, even negative, doesn't matter. Because this album is making an impact and if it doesn't go out to the press it can miss great opportunities. Imagine someone who lost his faith, then reads his daily secular hip hop news, sees an article about Rebel maybe negatif because it's Christian, but then gives the album a listen and then recommits his life to the Lord. That's what I'm talking about!
